Osaka sparkles in golden French Open outfit

Another Grand Slam, another iconic outfit delivered by Naomi Osaka.

BBC Naomi Osaka wears a gold sequined dress in the first round at the French Open

The Japanese player continued her tradition of jaw-dropping looks at the majors with an outfit that sparkled like "the Eiffel Tower at night" at the French Open.

Osaka arrived on Court Suzanne Lenglen with a black corset and cascading pleated skirt that swept dramatically over the red clay.

Underneath the moody ensemble, Osaka wore a glittering gold tennis dress, with the sequins reflecting the scorching Paris sun.

The four-time Grand Slam champion also shone on court as she beat Germany's Laura Siegemund 6-3 7-6 (7-3) to reach the second round.

Asked about her inspiration for the outfit, the 28-year-old said: "Funny enough, you know the Eiffel Tower at night when its sparkly? I think I look like that a little bit."

Watching Osaka's entrance live on TNT Sports, top seed Aryna Sabalenka said: "This is sparkling. I love it. I love that she is expressing herself and feels confident.

"That's the beauty of the fashion world, there's space for anything and I love that she's bringing it on court."

Osaka joked afterwards that she had worried she would not be allowed to play in the dress.

"When I first saw it, I felt like I look like the Eiffel Tower at night time when it's bright," she said.

"Then I actually got a little worried because when the sun hits the dress, it reflects a lot, so I was a little scared the umpire was going to kick me off the court.

"I got two back-up, normal dresses - thankfully I didn't have to wear them."

The outer black pieces were designed by Kevin Germanier, who is known for his sustainable approach to fashion, while the gold dress was custom made by Nike.

"Sometimes people say athletes are in show business or entertainers or whatever," Osaka said.

"For me, Grand Slam walk-ons are the only time that I possibly feel like I'm an entertainer."

At the Australian Open in January, Osaka made a statement entrance in ajellyfish-inspired outfitwhich she dedicated to her two-year-old daughter Shai.

Former British number one Annabel Croft said a lot of players "would not be able to live up to the expectation" of walking out in custom made outfits like Osaka's.

"If you out there in an extraordinary outfit, you've got to live up to that and have the confidence to play in it and give the crowd the tennis as well as the outfit," she said on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

"Naomi can handle it. She really loves it and she's not fazed by it."

Since the birth of her daughter in 2023, Osaka has re-established herself in the world's top 20 and she reached the semi-finals at the US Open in September.

The former world number one will face Croatia's Donna Vekic in the next round.

Gal Gadot Makes Barely-There Bikini Look Straight-up Risky in Stringy New Look

Summer dressing clearly looks effortless onGal Gadot, and she recently managed to prove it. After all, the “Wonder Woman” actress recently dropped a fresh set of sun-soaked Instagram photos, and the internet immediately zoomed in on her barely-there black string bikini moment.

The Fashion Spot Gal Gadot

Paired with simply relaxed beige trousers slung low on the waist and a sporty baseball cap, the look felt equal parts off-duty supermodel and luxury vacation moodboard. The whole ensemble actually helped Gadot show off her curves to pure perfection, while elongating her frame.

Gal Gadot’s whole look featured a tiny triangle bikini top with ultra-thin straps and a plunging silhouette. This ended up giving the entire outfit a rather risky edge, without genuinely trying too hard. Furthermore, instead of styling it with the usual beachwear pieces, Gadot balanced the revealing swimsuit with oversized tailored trousers and a sleek belt.

This ended up making the whole thing feel unexpectedly polished. In fact, the contrast between Gadot’s minimal swimwear and loose menswear-inspired pants is exactly the kind of styling trick that celebrities have been leaning into lately.

Charles Barkley rails against TV 'clowns' over Victor Wembanyama takes

Charles Barkley did little to hide his frustration with “clowns on TV” who’ve created a narrative that the Oklahoma City Thunder are playing “dirty” against San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

The Mirror Charles Barkley asserted that the Thunder are not playing dirty against Victor Wembanyama

Throughout the Western Conference Finals, fans and pundits alike have argued that theThunder— namely center Isaiah Hartenstein — are bending the rules while guardingWembanyama. Following hishistoric 41-point outburst in Game 1, Oklahoma City defenders have begun grabbing, pushing, and pressuring the Frenchman in an effort to slow him down in the paint.

The physical style of play has largely gone unchecked by the referees, prompting many around the NBA to question the officiating. NBC Sports’ Reggie Miller noted during a broadcast: “[Hartenstein is] using all of his body weight. He’s grabbing him, pushing him, and constantly trying to wear him down.”

Bill Simmons similarly called out the officials for not blowing the whistle, writing on X: “I thought Hartenstein couldn’t play in this series. But if they’re letting him grab and hit Wemby on every possession, then he should play all 48 minutes.”

On Saturday’s edition of ‘Inside the NBA,’ Barkley couldn’t help but poke fun at the overall discourse surrounding Wembanyama and the Thunder’s defense against him.

“I think we need to all pray for Wemby, because he can’t play too many minutes, they’re gonna kill him out there,” he said.

Once Kenny Smith questioned if his colleague was joking, Barkley replied: “Man I am damn sure joking, because you guys — these people — man they pissing me off. I’m watching the whole game, they ain’t playing dirty.

“These are some of the softest fouls I've ever seen in my life. You've got these clowns on TV talking about, 'Oh, they're going to hurt poor Wemby.' I was like, ‘Hurt him? You're kidding, man.’ It drives me crazy watching these shows."

Barkley expressed a similar sentiment following the Thunder’s 122-113 victory over the Spurs in Game 2 of the series, adding: “All of you at home and on TV saying they were too physical with Wemby need to stop. I’ve had kisses harder than those contacts.

“Sure, he was bodying him up, but it wasn’t anything excessive. No hard shots, no dirty fouls. If you think that’s physical, then you’re overreacting.”

Wembanyama, to his credit, is hardly letting the Thunder’s divisive approach throw him off his game.

In Game 4, the 22-year-old scored a game-high 33 points — eight of which came at the free-throw line — along with eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks en route to propelling the Spurs to a 103-82 win that tied up the series at two apiece.

Assessing his performance during a postgame press conference, Wembanyama told reporters: “We all have high standards, and I know I have a lot of responsibilities, but I’m here for it.

“Yeah, it was better today. It wasn’t perfect. But, you know, all of us, I’m talking about the whole organization, so we’re going to have to do things that we didn’t sign up for.”

NEED TO KNOW

  • Judge José Antonio Núñez delivered the ruling in Puerto Plata Collegiate Court in the Dominican Republic on Monday, May 25

  • Franco was pardoned and will not serve jail time because the court found that he was simultaneously a victim of blackmail and extortion at the hands of the victim's mother, who took large sums of money from him and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for "sexually trafficking" her daughter

Former Tampa Bay Rays player Wander Franco was found criminally responsible for the sexual and psychological abuse of a minor in a Dominican court, but a judge ruled on Monday, May 25, that he will not serve jail time.

Judge José Antonio Núñez delivered the ruling in Puerto Plata Collegiate Court in the Dominican Republic,The Athleticreported.

Franco, 25, while found "criminally responsible" for his interactions with a 14-year-old girl when he was 21, was simultaneously found to be the victim of "extortion" and "blackmail" after prosecutors found that the victim's mother was demanding large sums of money from him, according toESPN. The victim's mother was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "sexually trafficking" her daughter, per the outlet.

The former MLB player was initially arrested in 2024 after he was accused of engaging in an improper relationship with the young girl, The Athletic and ESPN reported. Franco was also accused of sending the girl's mother money in return for her silence, per the outlets.

He was placed on the restricted list amid an MLB investigation surrounding social media posts made about him in August 2023.

Now-deleted posts on X were the first to allege that Franco was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a minor, according to theTampa Bay Times.

The Rays confirmed that the team and the league “mutually agreed” to the move.“We were made aware of the social media posts that are circulating regarding Wander Franco,” the team said in a statement at the time. “We take the situation seriously and are in close contact with Major League Baseball as it conducts its due diligence."

"It seems contradictory to declare criminal responsibility and, at the same time, exempt him from punishment," Judge Núñez said in court on Monday, ESPN reported. "The court has granted Wander Franco a judicial pardon due to the particular circumstances that made him a material victim, but not a legal one."

“Here, the only victim is the minor, and Wander is a collateral victim,” Judge Núñez said in court, per The Athletic.

Following the judge's ruling, Franco embraced his mother, according to ESPN.

"Thank God for everything," Franco said in court.

"We respect the legal process and the decision issued by the court," the Rays said in a statement, per the outlet. "This is a serious matter, and our thoughts remain with those affected by the case."

"The Rays will continue to cooperate fully with Major League Baseball as it completes its review under the league's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy," the statement continued. "Out of respect for the legal process and all parties involved, we will have no further comment at this time."

A full sentencing hearing is currently slated for June 16 in the Dominican Republic, per ESPN.

Franco was originally found guilty in June 2025, but in December 2025, the Court of Appeals of the Judicial Department of Puerto Plata ordered a new trial, according to Dominican newspaperListin Diario. The judge also ruled that a financial certificate for RD$2,100,000 (around $35,700) from Banco Agrícola is to be given to the victim when she reaches adulthood, per the outlet.

PEOPLE has reached out to a representative for the Rays for comment.
